AFRICAN TRIBAL GOURD GUY

Description:  Students will be using dyes and alcohol to apply the finish on the gourd.  A tribal face cab will be finished with chalks or Pearl-X and applied to the gourd along wit Tyvek and feather trim.  An appropriate stone or bead embellishment will be attached with copper wire to the suede wrap with an optional stamped image.  The gourd will then be inserted into a pre-made stand that is covered with a leopard, fur print.  A finishing spray will be the final touch.  The banana gourds are pre-cut and sprayed to eliminate gourd dust.  A handout with directions and picture will be given to each student.

Supplies to bring:  All supplies are furnished but since the dies stain, you may want to bring rubber gloves.  Also, applying heat to the Tyvek may be a problem for students with allergies so you may want to bring a dust mask. 
 
Kit Fee:  $6.00 - Kit includes:  Pre-painted Tyvek, face cabochon, suede, copper wire, stand and bead embellishment.  This fee will be paid to instructor on day of class.

IKEBANA FLOWER VBASE

Description:  Students will transfer a simple repeat pattern onto a canteen gourd, with emphasis on negative space.  the design will be enhanced by outlining with a wood burner.  Color may be added with gilder's paste.  instructor will discuss options for negative space.  student should finish the transfer of the design and have begun the outlining by the end of class. 

Supplies to bring:  Woodburner with your favortie pens for simple lines and heavy shading, Dust mask, Paper scissors.

FAUX GLASS GOURD - 1 SPACES LEFT AS OF 1/18/10

Description:  Students will work with Adirondack Ink, Adirondack mixitive and two part epoxy to create waterproof faux glass gourds.  Students will receive TWO gourds, and all of the supplies to complete both gourds with this technique.   

Supplies to bring:  Bottle or container to dry one of the gourds upside down, - Please contaact instructor with any questions.  paper and pencil for notes.  Disposable gloves (a must if allergic to latex).

METALLIC ULTRA THICK EMBOSSED GOURD

Description:  Using metallic paint and Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel we will make one of a kind Fauz look to our gourds.  No gourd is ever the same you will have a complete gourd to take home.  I will supply everything needed for this class.    

Supplies to bring:  Apron, heat tool for embossing.  I will have a few for students to share.

CHIP CARVED STRAWBERRY GOURD BIRDHOUSE WITH PINE CONE ROOF (NOTE THIS IS A FIVE HOUR CLASS!!!)

Description: Chip carve patterns, stain, cut opening, prepare pine cone chips and attach on gourd.  Spray varnish to seal when complete/  Pine cones are also supplied along with liquid nails and spray varnish

 

Supplies:  Protective glove, wood carvers gouge #11 x 3/16" gouge (FLEXCUT brand) and an old pair of scissors or wire cutters and a drawing compass.  Any additional gouges student might have.  Strawberry gourd will be supplied.

WAX RELIEF ON LIDDED GOURD

 

Instructor: Becky Folsom       Level: ALL         Students: 15     Fee: $45 MEMBERS     $50 NON MEMBERS

 

Description: Students will learn to cut a whole gourd to form a fitted lid, add a wax relief design and then dye with leather dye.  A sea grass rim can be added, if desired.    

 

Students MUST bring: - Gourd 7" gourd, cleaned, uncut.  Micro saw or other cutting tool, X-acto knife, hair dryer, protective covering for clothing when working with leather dyes.

BEADED CABOCHON

 

Instructor:  Cheryl Anne              Level:  ALL            Students:  12        Fee:          $50 MEMBERS        $55 NON MEMBERS

Workshop Description:  Learn how to successfully make a beaded cabochon. Students will enjoy picking out their materials and designing and constructing their beaded cabochons. Students will learn about bead types, proper needles and stitches, and beading threads and how they all play an important part in creating cabochons. All supplies will be included.

Supplies students must bring:  Ott Light and good magnifying glasses if you desire. or need for close up work, small sharp scissors.

CARVING SANTA NECKLACES AND PINS

 

Instructor:  Cecil Walley            Level:  ALL            Students:  12        Fee:  $50 MEMBERS        $55 NON MEMBERS

 

Description:  You do not have to be an accomplished carver to do this class.  You will learn how to carve a Santa face on wood using a knife and gouges. Gouges needed are a v-gouge, 1/8" #11, 3/16" #11, and 1/4" #11. These are the ones used in chip carving gourds. Tools will be available to try in class and will be offered for purchase. You will need to purchase a kevlar carving glove for safety . Your blank for carving will be included in the cost of this class. Painting if time allows.
