Description: Students will be taught how to apply different thickness of birch bark to a gourd creating a sample gourd using at least three different techniques and how to separate the layers of white birch bark (Picture is a sample of one technique that will be taught). Students MUST bring: - Dremel or small drill, drill bits - 5/64 and 1/8, utility or exacto knife with a sharp pointed blade, cutting board or cutting mat, ruler or tape measure, pencil and paper for notes. |

Description: Participants will create an elephant pin from quickwood and a small jewelry gourd. The participants will then paint the elephant using acrylic paint. Description: Students will select a pre-cut gourd or gourd piece which has been cleaned and sprayed for their protection. The finish on the exterior will be a simple wax finish that is applied an buffed. Directions will be given in the handout for finishing the interior after class to allow students time for the crochet technique. They will learn to space and piece the gourd around the rim for stitching. They will then attach a rim cover, beads, fringes or fabric..their choice...after which they will learn to crochet on the rim. A basic knowledge of slip stitch, chain stitch and single crochet is needed A handout with directions and picture will be given to each student. Students MUST bring: - Crochet Hook size D, F and G. Kit Fee $4.00 - Kit includes: Rim trim and a choice of crochet materials. This fee will be paid to the instructor on the day of class. . |

Description: This carved gourd bowl will provide an opportunity to try different carving burs to create three dimensional kernels of corn. Basic pyrography (simple straight lines) will be taught with the use of Press and Seal. project will be finished with color if time allows. NOTE: Carrie Dearing has given Suzi permission to teach her corn design. Suzi has added a $10 design fee per student which will be sent to Carrie following the event. Description: Learn to apply and glue a flat bottom on a gourd to make it stand straight, then create an ultra fine finish and add an embossed design, all using non-toxic products. You will learn how to Cut and fit a flat bottom on your gourd, create a satin smooth surface, apply ink dye evenly, apply textured medium using stencil and finshing and highlighting with paint and waxes. Description: This is a fun project for al levels of Painters. You will use real turkey feathers that I have cleaned, sealed and ready for painting. I will supply the feather, instructions, picture, handouts, pattern, paint and all necessary painting supplies.

Original Gourd Jewelry
Workshop Description: A class for gourd jewelry designer/crafters of all skill levels with easy-to-understand oral & written instructions. (Instruction leaflet will be supplied to each member) Each piece will be personally chosen by participant. All materials, including a variety of pre-strung beads & gourd pendent bases is included in fee. Object will be to make one complete necklace in time allotted and additional matching earrings, bracelet, or brooch if time permits.
