River City Gourd Artists

The River City Gourd Artists meet the second Saturday of the month at 10:00 am, Westminster Hall at the Presbyterian Church on 2nd Street in Palatka. For more information or to join, contact Marla Woods  (386) 649-4282.

Members will learn ways to create using gourds, from apple candy dishes to zealous giraffes.  There will be a new project each month.   Never worked with gourds, but always wanted to?  Here is the perfect opportunity.

 2008 Patch Meetings

  June 14         Chicken Gourd.  Sandy and Tom will teach this class.  Supplies: birdhouse or bottle gourd,   paints and brushes. 

 July 12          Wax Resist Birdhouse.  Supplies: Birdhouse gourd, old paint brushes and leather dyes (purchase at show) suggested colors are yellow, red, and green.  

July 19         Coiling/Maskit Resist - by Laraine Short.  Fee is $10 for the class or $15 for kit (which includes wax linen, tapestry needle, leather dye, matte sealer and paper core).  Class will be held at Drug Lab Inc. and is limited to the first 15 people who sign up.  You must bring your scissors and a 6" wide gourd with the top cut off using a 5"ring.

 Aug 9             Pouch by Tonia Owen.  Cost is $20.  She will supply gourd already cut and cleaned with material on the inside (cream color), elastic cord, leather and suede(black, browns, cream and a greenish color), spray sealer.  She will have some of the following supplies, but you should bring these if you have them:  alcohol inks or whatever you want to decorate the front with, any special yarn that you want to use for a strap (she will twist it with her machine to attach it), beads (not seed beads), artificial sinew and tacky glue.  Supplies you must bring are scissors and an awl. 

 Sept. 13       To be announced.

 Oct. 11          Cornucopia.  Selma will teach.  Supplies:  Penguin gourd with a large bottom cut on an angle,       small gourds for the vegetables and fruit, paint and brushes.

 Nov. 8           To be announced. 

 Dec. 13         Christmas Party and ornament.  Marla will teach.  Supplies: small gourd (any type), paints and      brushes.
